PCA believes that learning should take place outside of time spent in class in order to ensure mastery and provide greater opportunity to complete a rich variety of projects. The school’s goal is to have homework that is commensurate with the student’s grade level. The rule of thumb is that homework should take about 10 minutes times the number of the student’s grade. This means that a 10th grade student should have 100 minutes of homework per night.
Most Upper School students have at least one academic prep period (“study hall”) each day and this serves to reduce the amount of time required at home.
