The understanding and acceptance of diversity is a part of the Bible program at Portsmouth Christian Academy. Noting the variety of Christian denominations represented in a Bible class, there is consistently a focus on shared Christian beliefs and doctrines. Noting the ethnic, racial, and gender diversity of the world, students affirm that all human beings are created in the image and likeness of God, are loved by God, are endowed with unique gifts and talents by God, and are, therefore, imbued with a dignity deserving of respect and honor. Ultimately, the students of Bible classes learn to use Christian charity and civility in discussing varied doctrinal beliefs.
Students learn first about the Old Testament and New Testament, providing them with a framework from which world religions can be referenced. Recognizing the Bible as truth, identifying components of denominational doctrines, and defining the attributes of God as He worked throughout the Old and New Testament are primary learning outcomes for the freshman and sophomore Bible students.
To further learn how to address contemporary issues form a biblical and Christian point of view, juniors and seniors may select to from electives such as Contemporary Christian Thought, World Religions & Missions, Evangelism & Discipleship, and Apologetics.
