PCA believes that learning should take place outside of time spent in class in order to ensure mastery. The school’s goal is to have homework that is commensurate with the student’s grade level. The rule of thumb is that homework should take about 10 minutes times the number of the student’s grade. This means that a second grade student should have 20 minutes of homework per night.
In general, teachers are sensitive to the issue of students who for whatever reason are consistently taking more time than this to complete homework. Adjustments can be made on a case by case basis as required.
Students are encouraged to use dismissal time for working on their homework which can reduce the amount of time needed at home.
