DOVER, NH — Kindness is contagious around the halls and in the classrooms at Portsmouth Christian Academy. For the month of October, Elementary Student Council members challenged their classmates in kindergarten through grade 8 to collect theme specific items each week to help support local families through the Seacoast Family Food Pantry. The response from their peers surpassed expectations. After only three weeks, more than 2,000 items were collected.
All the food and personal care products will go directly to those in need right here in our Seacoast community. Because of the economy, the food pantry expects to be even busier as the holidays approach. The numbers of requests are up over 50% of those served last year at this time.
“This is such a wonderful teaching moment for young people to serve their community,” stated Diane Giese, Executive Director for the Seacoast Family Food Pantry. “Helping others through this food drive is a memory that will stay with these children as they grow older.”
