5/10/2010 PCA Students Get Hands-on for Project Serve 2010

DOVER, NH — Picture this – more than 630 Portsmouth Christian Academy students and perhaps as many as 100 adult volunteers doing community service projects throughout Dover and the Seacoast region.

On May 26, PCA will launch Project Serve 2010. Students in preschool through grade 12 will be involved in a service day aimed to make a significant impact in the communities of the Seacoast Region.

Teams composed of students and adults, will perform a multitude of meaningful tasks such as doing yard work for area neighbors, greeting residents at area nursing homes, working with the Pease Greeters, helping various non-profits and churches with spring cleanup and other projects. Activities will be age appropriate and aimed at making a difference — even the youngest students will take part.

A combination service day/fundraiser, Project Serve participants requested family members, friends, and businesses to sponsor them for their work. While the labor provided is completely free of charge for the neighbors and organizations being served, monies raised in support of this event will serve as the primary funding source for the school’s Families in Crisis Fund, which provides tuition assistance to families who otherwise could not afford PCA.

“Many schools will have walk-a-thons or sell magazines to raise money, but I really wanted PCA to choose a more meaningful activity that would help raise much needed money for the school,” said Brian Bell, PCA Head of School. “Project Serve will be a day of service, growth, relationships, and memorable experiences for all involved.”

Portsmouth Christian Academy is located at 20 Seaborne Drive, Dover, NH. PCA offers a challenging academic curriculum from preschool through high school along with competitive athletic programs and other stimulating extra-curricular activities.
