11/4/09 PCA Presents “Androcles and the Lion” – Comedy for the Whole Family

DOVER, NH — Portsmouth Christian Academy’s Theatre presents James Engelhardt’s comedy “Androcles and the Lion” Friday, Nov. 13 at 7 p.m. and Saturday, Nov. 14 at 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. Enjoy a night of great storytelling, laughs, and fun for the whole family as PCA’s talented junior and senior high actors present this hilarious tale (based on the famous Aesop fable) directed by Grace Thorsen.

Author James Engelhardt takes the tale of Androcles to a whole new level of drama, intrigue, and comedy. The story follows a runaway slave who assists an injured lion, is recaptured, and is sent to the arena to become entertainment for the crowd and food for the wild beasts. Androcles is ultimately saved because of his random act of kindness. Aesop’s story has its roots in an ancient tale by Apion.

This comedy will be held at the gymnasium stage at Portsmouth Christian Academy, 20 Seaborne Drive, Dover, NH. Directions to the school can be found on its website, www.pcaschool.org. Tickets are available at the gym door for $8 per adult and $6 per student/staff/seniors. For more information, please call 603.742.3617.
