DOVER, NH — Portsmouth Christian Academy Cross Country fans had much to cheer about at the recent Granite State Conference Class S Championships held at PCA on Oct. 20. The highlight of the meet for the Eagles was Brandon Gerrish coming in first and breaking the course record with a time of 17:03. He ran the entire race, uncontested, finishing over 1 minute ahead of second place. PCA's second finisher was Andrew Green who had a personal record time of 19:59. The boys team finished 4th of 10 teams.
The PCA girls team was led Eva Moulton who came in 9th with a time of 23:16. This was her best time on this course and her second fastest time ever on any course. The girls most inspiring story was about Courtney Harrington who lost one shoe in the mud 1.5 miles into the 3.1 mi course. She took off the other shoe and ran the rest of the race in her socks finishing with a great personal record time of 26:02.
Nearly 100 athletes from 10 class schools participated in the Class S Championship, which was held in great fall weather. The boys meet was won by Newmarket and the girls meet by Littleton. Coaches and athletes celebrated together after the race with a great buffet of sandwiches, snacks, cider, Gatorade, and water. The top 5 finishers were awarded medals.
The PCA Eagles travel to Derryfield Park for the Class M/S Championships on Saturday October 31.
